15U Navy National Coaches

Head Coach: Coach Hutch
Steve Hutcheson brings an exceptional depth of experience, faith, and leadership to the volleyball court with 25 years of coaching experience. He values coaching as an opportunity to share his faith and to play a meaningful role in an athlete’s life journey—helping them grow not only as volleyball players, but as people who go on to positively impact others.
Steve emphasizes the importance of short-term memory, teaching athletes to quickly reset because the ball will return over the net in an average of 4.5 seconds. This mindset helps players stay focused, resilient, and ready for the next play. His coaching philosophy reflects his leadership style: coach forward, praise publicly, and correct privately.
Guided by the verse, “What is impossible with man is possible with God” (Luke 18:27), Steve integrates faith, discipline, and perspective into his coaching approach. Among his proudest moments are watching his teams perform at their highest level and hearing college volleyball commentators praise an athlete he once coached.
Fun fact: Steve has completed 10 marathons and has performed multiple times with a Contemporary Christian Music group at Six Flags Over Texas, leading youth rallies of 3,000–4,000 people.
